Alaska, DC and Oregon change on July 1, not January 1. Alaska goes to $15.00 on July 1, 2027.

“Now” is the rate in effect in October 2026, from the Department of Labor table updated July 1, 2026.[1] Florida rose to $15.00 on September 30, 2026, after that update.[20] Every 2027 rate comes from a state government page. Where we did not find one, the table says so; it does not guess.

States with city or county minimum wages

Some local governments set a higher minimum wage than their state.[1] These state pages say so. The tool shows the state rate only.

New York and Oregon set different rates by region inside the state rate; the table above lists them. Other states can have local rates too.

How the tool works

  • Full-time pay is the hourly rate × 40 hours a week × 52 weeks (2080 hours a year). Change the hours to see part-time pay. It is pay before taxes, without overtime.
  • Example: California $17.40 × 40 = $696.00 a week, × 52 = $36,192.00 a year. Now: $16.90 × 2,080 = $35,152.00.
  • Where a state has no minimum wage law, or a rate below the federal rate, the tool shows the federal $7.25. That applies to employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act.[1]
  • Tipped employees: the cash wage the employer must pay before tips, from the Department of Labor table.[2] “No tip credit” means the employer must pay the full minimum wage before tips. Tips plus the cash wage must reach the full minimum wage.
  • States with more than one rate (for example New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon): the big number uses the first rate in the list. The other rates are listed below it.

What this tool does not cover

  • City and county rates. The tool does not calculate local minimum wages. Check your city or county.
  • Industry rates. Some states set other rates for health care, fast food, hotels, farm work or other jobs. The tool shows the general state rate.
  • Youth, training and student rates. Some states allow lower rates for minors, students or new hires. Only Minnesota's training wage is listed.
  • Overtime and salaried workers. The tool does not calculate overtime or the minimum salary for exempt employees.
  • States we did not check. For 22 states the tool shows the DOL 2026 rate only. For Arizona, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, the state page did not open, so 2027 is “Not verified”.
  • Territories. Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and other territories are not included.
  • Changes after October 27, 2026. States can still announce 2027 rates. Check the state labor department before you set pay.

How we made this page

AI helped make this page. We first read the official sources. Then we wrote the calculation rules and the text. After that, a separate, independent AI agent (Claude) checked the page against the sources (2026-10-27). No person reviewed this page.

Rates now: the DOL State Minimum Wage Laws table (updated July 1, 2026), read on October 27, 2026. Florida is the exception: its rate rose to $15.00 on September 30, 2026, after the DOL update, so the tool uses the Florida Department of Commerce page. Tipped cash wages for 2026 come from the DOL tipped employees table (updated July 1, 2026), except New York (state page) and Florida (calculated below).

2027 rates: only from state government pages, read on October 27, 2026. We found a January 1, 2027 increase for 13 states: California $17.40 (DIR news release 2026-66), Colorado $15.71 (CDLE), Connecticut $17.48 (Governor's office), Maine $15.70 (Maine DOL), Michigan $15.00 (LEO), Minnesota $11.87 (DLI), Montana $11.20 (DLI), Nebraska $15.26 (Attorney General Opinion 26-003; the Nebraska labor department site did not load), New Jersey $16.48 (LWD), Ohio $11.40 (2027 poster), South Dakota $12.30 (DLR), Virginia $13.75 (DOLI) and Washington $17.73 (L&I). We did not use Labor Law Center, EPI, NCSL or news sites.

No change on January 1, 2027 (state page says so): New York stays $17.00 and $16.00 (“On January 1, 2027, New York's minimum wage will stay the same”); Florida stays $15.00 until December 31, 2027; Hawaii stays $16.00 until its next step, $18.00 on January 1, 2028. Alaska stays $14.00 on January 1 and rises to $15.00 on July 1, 2027 (Alaska DOL release 25-11). DC and Oregon adjust on July 1, 2027 by a CPI formula; those amounts are not yet published.

No change announced: the Delaware, Illinois, Maryland and Massachusetts pages list a current rate and no 2027 change. Vermont adjusts each January 1, but we found no 2027 announcement on the Vermont DOL site, so the tool shows “not yet published”.

Not verified: we could not open the official pages for Arizona and Rhode Island (a bot check blocked the page), Missouri (the page did not load), Nevada (request rejected) and New Mexico (error page). For these five, the tool shows the DOL 2026 rate and “Not verified” for 2027, with a link to the state page.

2026 rate (DOL), 2027 not checked: for the other 22 states (most of them at the federal $7.25), we did not open the state labor department page. The tool shows the DOL rate and does not state a 2027 rate.

Federal $7.25: where a state has no minimum wage law (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee) or a rate below $7.25 (Georgia and Wyoming, $5.15), the tool shows $7.25, the federal rate for employers covered by the FLSA, and says so in the note.

Full-time pay: hourly rate × 40 hours × 52 weeks (2,080 hours a year) by default. You can change the hours per week. The tool does not add overtime, unpaid time off or taxes. Florida tipped cash wage: $15.00 minus the $3.02 tip credit that DOL lists for Florida = $11.98 (our calculation).

Checks (node web/src/tools/us-minimum-wage/test.mjs): California $17.40 − $16.90 = $0.50 (3.0%); $17.40 × 40 = $696.00 a week; × 52 = $36,192.00 a year. Washington $17.73 × 2,080 = $36,878.40. Federal $7.25 × 2,080 = $15,080.00. Michigan $15.00 − $13.73 = $1.27. Virginia $13.75 − $12.77 = $0.98.
