Example
Mumbai: 1 business day after Fri 13 Nov 2026 is Mon 16 Nov (second Saturday and Sunday skipped).
Common mistake
The holiday list is by RBI regional office, not by bank. A holiday in Kolkata may be a working day in Mumbai.
Next step
For a cheque, loan EMI or deadline, also check your own bank's branch notice. A bank can keep a different weekly holiday.

How the tool counts business days
- A business day is a day on which the bank is not closed. Closed days are: every Sunday, the second and fourth Saturday of the month, and the days on the RBI list for your office.
- The start date does not count. “1 business day after” is the next business day.
- Example: in Mumbai, 1 business day after Friday, 13 November 2026 is Monday, 16 November. The tool skips Saturday 14 November (the second Saturday) and Sunday 15 November.
- Example: in New Delhi, 1 business day after Thursday, 24 December 2026 is Monday, 28 December. The tool skips Christmas, the fourth Saturday (26 December) and Sunday.
- The Sunday rule comes from Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, as RBI's master circular explains. The second and fourth Saturday rule comes from a Government of India notification of 20 August 2015, which RBI announced on 28 August 2015.
What this tool does not cover
- 2027. RBI has not published its 2027 list yet. The tool stops at 31 December 2026. We will add 2027 when RBI publishes it.
- Holidays declared at short notice. State governments can declare holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act (RBI master circular, para 29). A new one may not be on this list yet. Check your bank's notice.
- Your own branch. RBI says a bank may choose its business hours, keep a weekly holiday on a day other than Sunday, or open on Sundays. Your branch can differ from this list.
- Payment systems and cut-off times. This tool counts bank holidays only. It does not cover UPI, NEFT or RTGS timings.
- States and districts. The RBI list is by regional office, not by state or district. Holidays are not shown separately for each district.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Saturday a bank holiday?
Banks close on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The other Saturdays are working days, unless RBI lists a holiday for your office. In November 2026, the closed Saturdays are 14 and 28 November.
Are banks closed on 1 April 2026?
In 28 of RBI's 34 regional offices, yes. RBI marks 1 April 2026 as Banks' Closing of Accounts. It is not marked for Aizawl, Gangtok, Kohima, Ranchi, Shillong and Shimla.
What is the next bank working day after Friday 13 November 2026 in Mumbai?
Monday 16 November 2026. Saturday 14 November is the second Saturday and 15 November is a Sunday.
Why does a holiday name list festivals of other states?
RBI writes one description for each date, the same for all offices. If one date is a holiday for different reasons in different states, the description joins all the names. Check whether your office has the date marked, not the name.
Does the tool cover 2027?
Not yet. RBI has not published its 2027 holidays. The tool stops at 31 December 2026. 2027 will be added after RBI publishes it.

How we made this page
AI helped make this page. We first read the official sources. Then we wrote the calculation rules and the text. After that, a separate, independent AI agent (Claude) checked the page against the sources (2026-10-22). No person reviewed this page.
Holiday data: RBI holiday page, Regional Office = Select All, Year = 2026, one query for each month (October is the page's default view), read on 2026-10-22. The page shows a matrix of 34 regional offices × dates. Each mark is either a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act or Banks' Closing of Accounts. The tool stores every mark: 106 date and type rows.
RBI gives one description for each date, and it is the same for every office. For example, 15 January 2026 reads “Uttarayana Punyakala/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Makara Sankranti/Election to Municipal Corporations in Maharashtra”. The tool shows this text as RBI writes it. It does not split it by office, because RBI does not.
Rules not in the RBI matrix: (1) Sunday. The RBI master circular (para 29) says the public holidays under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act include Sunday. (2) Second and fourth Saturday. RBI's press release of 28 August 2015 says the Government of India notification of 20 August 2015 declares them public holidays for all scheduled and non-scheduled banks from 1 September 2015. The RBI holiday page also says: “All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays”.
The second Saturday is the Saturday on day 8 to 14 of the month; the fourth Saturday is on day 22 to 28. A fifth Saturday is a working day.
Business days: the start date does not count. The tool steps forward one day at a time and skips every closed day. The result is not given if it falls after 31 December 2026, because RBI has not published 2027.
Banks' Closing of Accounts on 1 April 2026: 28 of the 34 offices. It is not marked for Aizawl, Gangtok, Kohima, Ranchi, Shillong and Shimla.
Weekday holiday count: RBI holidays in 2026 that fall on a day that is not a Sunday or a second or fourth Saturday. Highest: Aizawl, Gangtok, Kanpur, Kolkata and Lucknow (26). Lowest: Kohima (14).
Checks against the RBI page (node web/src/tools/in-bank-holidays/test.mjs): Republic Day (26 January), Independence Day (15 August), Gandhi Jayanti (2 October) and Christmas (25 December) are marked for all 34 offices; Mumbai has 2 and 20 October 2026; New Delhi has 26 June 2026 (Muharram); 1 April 2026 is Banks' Closing of Accounts.
Hand examples: Mumbai, 1 business day after Friday 13 November 2026 is Monday 16 November (14 November is the second Saturday, 15 November is a Sunday). New Delhi, 1 business day after Thursday 24 December 2026 is Monday 28 December (Christmas, fourth Saturday 26 December, Sunday). Mumbai, 1 business day after Tuesday 31 March 2026 is Thursday 2 April (1 April is the closing of accounts). Chennai, 5 business days after Wednesday 14 January 2026 is Friday 23 January (15, 16 and 17 January are holidays, 18 January is a Sunday).
